SUMMARY:Potters Wheel Taster Saturday 12th September 10.30am
DESCRIPTION:This 90-minute potters wheel taster will introduce you to the basic principles of making a small pot.  You will be shown how to prepare the clay\, centre the clay onto the potters wheel and how to manipulate the clay to create a form.  This class is taught by our professional Pottery Teachers who have years of experience and teaching.  They will give step-by-step instructions\, perform demonstrations and support you in the process.  You will get two 400g balls of clay to create two pots. \nOnce the class is finished\, the work needs 5-7 days to dry out before going into the kiln for its first firing to 1000oC.  After that we will glaze your pieces in colours you have chosen during the class and your work is then re-fired to over 1200oC.  Once cooled and wrapped\, we will contact you for collection.  The whole process takes approximately 2 weeks. \nFor your safety we advise that no open toed shoes are worn\, long hair is tied back and nails are short if possible. We will provide aprons but please wear clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting clay on. Please pass this information onto everyone you are booking places for. \nYour workshop will be run by our Pottery Teacher Christine. \nPlease note these Potters Wheel Tasters are for aged 16+ only.  We run classes specifically for children during the school holidays. \nWorkshop vouchers are available for this workshop. DESCRIPTION:Discover the satisfying art of sgraffito\, a decorative ceramic technique where you scratch through a layer of coloured slip to reveal the clay beneath\, creating striking patterns and illustrations. \nIn this hands-on workshop\, you’ll make your own plate or dish\, using the moulds provided. Once you chosen and added your coloured slip\, you will learn the basics of exploring mark-making and composition\, using the provided tools to bring your design to creation. \nThere will be lots of inspiration to hand\, but you are welcome to bring your own simple designs to use. \nThis is perfect for beginners and experienced. Once finished\, your piece will be dried\, glazed and kiln fired.  You can collect at a later date. \nPlease note\, we cannot refund or transfer your booking unless your original places are filled. \nAs this is an evening workshop\, the Tearoom and Gallery will be closed.

SUMMARY:Daytime Beginners Pottery Course 14th Sept - 5th Oct 10.30am-1pm
DESCRIPTION:We’re running another daytime beginners pottery course returns for a block of 4 sessions.  This course is suitable for anyone interested in learning about creating in clay or who may want to refresh rusty skills.  We will focus on hand building techniques and processes.  This course is suitable for anyone aged 16+. If you are interested in learning how to make pottery on a potters wheel\, we run a beginners potters wheel evening course – see our website listings page. \nThis course will start on Monday 14th September and run for 4 consecutive Mondays until 5th October. Sessions will start at 10.30am until 1pm and the total cost is £200\, which includes all clay\, glazes\, tuition\, kiln firings and use of studio facilities.  Our teacher Vikki is a fully qualified professional who has been teaching pottery for over 25 years. Her endless patience and friendly nature will ensure you have a positive experience regardless of your skills or confidence. DESCRIPTION:Our newly extended Open Studio Access allows you to come and use the pottery workshop facilities to create your own makes.  This can be hand-building projects or on the potters wheel.  You can come for 2\, 4 or 6 hours.  This is not a taught session so although our Pottery Teachers will be on hand for support and advice they will not teach one-to-one. \nIf you book for 2 or 4 hours please email workshops@edentearoom.com to let us know what time you will be attending so we can ensure there is enough room for everyone. \nOpen Access runs every Tuesday from 9.30am – 3.30pm. DESCRIPTION:This 90-minute potters wheel taster will introduce you to the basic principles of making a small pot.  You will be shown how to prepare the clay\, centre the clay onto the potters wheel and how to manipulate the clay to create a form.  This class is taught by our professional Pottery Teachers who have years of experience and teaching.  They will give step-by-step instructions\, perform demonstrations and support you in the process.  You will get two 400g balls of clay to create two pots. \nOnce the class is finished\, the work needs 5-7 days to dry out before going into the kiln for its first firing to 1000oC.  After that we will glaze your pieces in colours you have chosen during the class and your work is then re-fired to over 1200oC.  Once cooled and wrapped\, we will contact you for collection.  The whole process takes approximately 2 weeks. \nFor your safety we advise that no open toed shoes are worn\, long hair is tied back and nails are short if possible. We will provide aprons but please wear clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting clay on. Got a degree in art or never held a brush before come and paint with Karen. \nIn this session you will be guided step-by-step to create a miniature watercolour landscape painting incorporating a range of techniques. (See photo) All materials provided for this class. \nThis session is very informal and relaxed.
