Hand Coiled Ceramic Sculpture with Crimped Rosette Top, Hand Coiled Ceramic Sculpture with Undulating Spiral Top, Hand Coiled Ceramic Sculpture with Tendrils

Jo gained a BA Design with 1st Class Hons from Liverpool University and in the same year won The Royal Liver Assurance Art Award. Jo creates wonderful individual hand coiled pottery and sculpture with a unique natural feel.

Her ceramic pieces are inspired by natural objects found on beaches around the Northwest coast of England; the spherical sculptures are hand coiled out of clay, then unique textures are applied and carved into the surfaces creating an unusual finish. She then uses a combination of glazing techniques preferring a matt/dry finish.

Jo said, “I love to sculpt, I try to create something unique from whatever I am observing and I’m particularly inspired by form and texture. As I work into the piece emphasising naturally occurring textures, my works takes on its own individual form inviting people to look more closely at the intricate surfaces the I have created.”
